Operations & Administration (O&A)

Team members serve as liaisons between custodian banks, the dealer community and portfolio managers.

The Operations & Administration Group is responsible for providing operational support to BlackRock’s portfolio management teams and clients. The group is organized both functionally and regionally.

Investment Operations is composed of four groups:
  • The Trading Operations team is responsible for all transaction processing and associated support including trade confirmation, trade & payment settlement, fail & payment difference resolution, corporate actions, loan products and compensation claims
  • The Derivatives Operations team is responsible for collateral management, derivative confirmations, settlement of derivatives payments, management of legal agreements, and oversight of counterparty exposure for all derivatives
  • The Client Service Operations team is responsible for all operational activities associated with new account take-on and establishment of new products
  • The Counterparty & Custodian Oversight team is responsible for establishing and managing service level agreements with our counterparties and custodians, as well as proactively overseeing firm-wide counterparty exposures


The Retail Operations group is responsible for Accounting and Commingled Vehicle Services Oversight as well as Shareholder, Transfer Agent and Distribution Services.

The Alternative Products group provides operational support for investment products such as the Hedge Fund of Funds, Private Equity, Real Estate and CDOs.

The O&A Business Finance and Administration function focuses on efforts to mitigate operational risk, leverage Management Information Systems, and effectively execute key strategic initiatives.

The Office of Mutual Funds serves as the primary point of contact between BlackRock and the Boards of Trustees for all U.S. mutual funds for which BlackRock serves as investment advisor. It is comprised of: Fund Accounting & Administration, which focuses on fund accounting & custody, financial reporting, tax advisory services and Princeton administrators; and Treasury, which is responsible for board relations, board reporting, legal publishing, broker dealer services, transfer agent oversight and performance/prospectus updates.
 
The Operations & Administration Group hires professionals with industry experience and undergraduates just entering the workforce. Industry professionals come from a wide range of backgrounds.
