I am one of three Green Package Analytics Team Managers on the U.S. team -- part of BlackRock Solutions' Portfolio Analytics Group. The Green Package is a suite of risk reports which spans various products, including Fixed Income, Equity, Liquidity and Alternatives. I am responsible for providing daily analytics and risk reporting, as well as ad hoc analytical support to departments across BlackRock.
Team Culture
The best part about BlackRock is the culture, especially with regards to teamwork. I believe we have the best combination of laid back personalities with a very strong work ethic. This makes BlackRock not only a fun and exciting place to work, but also the perfect environment for learning new things.
Open Communication
Within BlackRock there is open communication with regards to your career goals and aspirations. These are not only discussed during performance reviews, but consistently throughout the year. Additionally, there are always opportunities to learn more about various topics and your colleagues are always willing to help.
Independent Decision-making
The most challenging thing about my job is also the best thing. Coupled with a lot of responsibility, there is also a large amount of independent decision making. Making decisions based on your own judgment so early on in your career is both challenging and rewarding.
7:45 a.m. – Ready to Work. Read/respond to emails received overnight. Check in with team to ensure there are no Green Package related issues from earlier in the morning.
9:15 a.m. – Meet with team. Conference call with teams in New York and London to discuss outstanding issues.
9:50 a.m. – Meet with fellow managers. I attend another meeting, this time with my fellow Green Package Analytics Team managers to discuss outstanding issues from earlier in the morning.
10:00 a.m. – Work on projects/Provide analyst support. Work on current projects, which vary day to day. Provide support to analysts in the case of questions/problems they are having. Prepare for end of day team meeting.
5:00 p.m.– Review market events and issues. Meet with team to discuss market events, open issues/questions, as well as team logistics.
6:00 – 8:00 p.m. – Wrap up. Go over outstanding team projects, ensure all inquires and requests are being responded to in a timely fashion. Finish out work for the day.
8:00 p.m. – Leave office!
