Immense Tuition Increases, but Growth Has Peaked
Daily Stat | November 08, 2012 | Topics: Investing for Income
257%: Increase in tuition and fees for in-state students since 1982
Over the past 30 years, in-state tuition and fees for public four-year colleges have increased by 257%. While that number is pretty hefty, the good news is that prices are no longer accelerating. The growth in prices peaked for the 2009–10 school year and have dropped since. 2012–13 tuition and fees for in-state students at public four-year institutions increased by 3.4% over the previous year. This is less than the 5.2% average annual increase in costs over the past decade.
